The National Bank’s dollar rate falls to 447.14 after Tuesday’s 454.98 peak

The official rate for Thursday is 447.14 tenge per dollar, 6.51 below Wednesday’s 453.65 and 7.84 below Tuesday’s 454.98, the highest reading of the week, by the National Bank’s daily series. That returns half of the 15.61 the tenge lost between 30 September and Tuesday.

Line chart on beige paper showing the National Bank dollar rate rising from 439.37 to a peak of 454.98 and falling to 447.14, the last point in amber.

The series runs 439.37 for 30 September, 441.91 for 2 October, 447.73 for Saturday 3 October, held through Sunday and Monday, 454.98 for Tuesday, 453.65 for Wednesday and 447.14 for Thursday, by the bank’s rate feed for each date. The euro is set at 500.35 for Thursday, 9.64 below Wednesday, the rouble at 5.24 and the yuan at 66.69, each lower on the day. Half of the week’s loss came back in one setting, and the bank’s feed for Friday was still empty on Thursday morning.

Each day’s official rate is fixed on the previous working day from the exchange’s weighted average, so Thursday’s 447.14 is Wednesday’s trading, and the sequence gives the week its shape: a 7.25 jump for Tuesday, a 1.33 easing for Wednesday and a 6.51 fall for Thursday. The step from 453.65 to 447.14 is 1.4%, by CAW’s arithmetic, against the 1.6% jump for Tuesday, and the dollar stands 7.77 above its 30 September level.

Half of the week’s loss came back in one setting, and the bank’s feed for Friday was still empty on Thursday morning.

The bank prints the rate and its change against the previous setting and no comment, and the feed’s Friday page returned nothing by 08:45 Moscow time. The next number in the series is set on Thursday afternoon, and Monday’s will show whether the week closes nearer 447 or 455.
