Sughd expects €32 million from the EBRD for Khujand’s sewers and €70 million for Mastchoh’s water

The EBRD will finance the modernisation of Khujand’s sewerage system with €32 million under its Green Cities programme, the Sughd regional administration’s press service said after its chairman Rajab Ahmadzoda met the bank’s head of office in Tajikistan, Holger Wiefel. Design is complete and the main works are planned for 2027. A second project, €70 million for Mastchoh district’s water supply and irrigation, is also to start in 2027.

The account is the administration’s, carried by SughdPressa and by Asia-Plus on Tuesday morning. It names no loan agreement, no signing date and no terms, and the bank’s own site carried no release on Khujand by Wednesday morning. What it describes is a project past its design stage: the reconstruction and renewal of the city’s sewer networks to improve the management of urban wastewater, under the programme through which the EBRD finances municipal utilities.

Mastchoh’s €70 million covers the rehabilitation of water-supply and irrigation canals, pumping stations and equipment, with energy-efficient technology, and is scheduled for 2027 as well.

It names no loan agreement, no signing date and no terms, and the bank’s own site carried no release on Khujand by Wednesday morning.

The EBRD and the government signed an investment roadmap in London on 14 September. Khujand’s sewers and Mastchoh’s canals are the projects Sughd’s administration is now naming.

Unresolved: whether the €32 million is a loan to the city or to the state, its term, the co-financing, and the date of the bank’s board decision, none of which the administration’s text gives.
