Dushanbe lays the stone of an 8.5 million-passenger terminal with no price and no builder

Emomali Rahmon laid the foundation stone of a new international terminal at Dushanbe airport on Friday, with the chairman of the Majlisi Milli and the city’s mayor, Rustami Emomali, beside him, Khovar reported at 17:59. Capacity is put at 8.5 million passengers a year and the build at 18 months. Khovar names no cost, no contractor and no source of money.

An empty airport apron at dusk with a building plot staked out by amber-flagged pegs beyond the fence.

Quality materials and hundreds of experienced specialists will go into the building, Khovar wrote, and the president instructed the airport’s management and other officials on the work. What happens to the existing terminal, the agency’s account does not say.

That afternoon the investment committee’s public-private partnership council, at its 18th sitting, cleared eight projects worth more than 1.549 billion somoni, about $170 million, to be financed by private partners in energy, healthcare, education, culture and utilities. None of the projects, their sites or their partners is named in the official release, Asia-Plus noted at 15:51.

What happens to the existing terminal, the agency’s account does not say.

The Majlisi Milli sits on 17 October with an environmental code, a competition law and amendments to the labour, family and urban-planning codes on its list, Khovar reported on Thursday evening.

Eight projects and one terminal went on the record in a day, with one sum between them, the 1.549 billion somoni of the eight.
