The attack began on Tuesday evening and ran through the night, Meduza reported at 05:40 Moscow time. Mayor Andrei Kravchenko confirmed it and reported debris falling on the territory of enterprises and near a residential building, with fires.
Governor Veniamin Kondratyev gave the toll in the morning, and Fontanka relayed it at 08:51: three adults and one child dead, 29 injured, three of them in a serious condition. Three private houses, at least five apartment blocks, a church and a kindergarten were damaged in the city. In Anapa, three houses and a kindergarten took debris with no casualties, and the Krymsk and Temryuk districts were dealing with consequences of their own.

The Defence Ministry counted 596 Ukrainian drones shot down between 20:00 on 8 September and 08:00 on 9 September, EADaily relayed at 09:05, across 12 regions including Krasnodar Krai and Crimea, and over the Black Sea. The ministry's statement named no port or terminal.

The Ukrainian monitoring channels Exilenova+ and Supernova+ and the outlet Astra reported a fire at the Novorossiysk fuel-oil terminal, and NASA's FIRMS satellites recorded several heat sources, Krym.Realii wrote at 10:10. Militarnyi, a Ukrainian defence outlet, published a geolocation at 10:58. It counted at least one damaged tank. Neither the mayor nor the governor named the terminal; the mayor's wording was debris on the territory of enterprises.
Ukrainska Pravda reported a statement by Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces about a strike on a base in Novorossiysk, and the desk could not open that report; none of the accounts it did open carried a Ukrainian claim about the terminal.
The fuel-oil terminal, Novorossiysky Mazutny Terminal, is part of the Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port group, NMTP, and handles fuel oil, according to the industry directory energybase.ru. It lies inside the harbour. The consortium's marine terminal at Yuzhnaya Ozereevka lies west of the city and loads the crude that carries more than 80% of Kazakhstan's oil exports.
That terminal resumed loading on 27 July after July's drone attacks, Vedomosti reported at the time, and its channel's last operational statement is dated 30 July. On Wednesday the channel carried the announcement of the consortium's 14th Safety Day in Astana that day, with occupational safety, incident investigation and emergency response on the programme and the motto of zero incidents.
War-risk cover for Black Sea calls stood at about 1.5% of hull value in late August, by the desk's earlier reads.
