The SCO summit has a date in writing from everyone except Beijing

The organisation’s secretariat has fixed the heads of state council for 1 September in the Kyrgyz Republic, the first date on its own site; China’s foreign ministry has still not said the summit’s name, two weeks out.

The readout is dated 14 August and covers a videoconference of national coordinators held from 10 to 12 August with Kyrgyzstan presiding. One sentence does the work: the parties continued preparations for the meeting of the Council of Heads of State in the Kyrgyz Republic on 1 September 2026. It is the first date the organisation has put on its own site for the Bishkek summit, and it is one day narrower than the host’s standing formula of 31 August to 1 September.

Two weeks out, the schedule exists in an airport notice and a coordinators’ readout.

Beijing has still not said the summit’s name. The Chinese foreign ministry’s newest briefing, on Friday, carried nothing on the summit, on Kyrgyzstan or on Xi Jinping’s travel; the last substantive word from that podium remains Lin Jian’s, on 20 July. Xi’s attendance and a state visit exist only in Kyrgyz announcements from May.

The airport is more forthcoming. Manas will run a special regime on 31 August and 1 September for the aircraft of heads of state and official delegations, with passenger flights partly moved to night hours, the operator said on Friday, naming the SCO summit and the World Nomad Games in one order. Two weeks out, the schedule exists in an airport notice and a coordinators’ readout, and in nothing Beijing has signed.
