Xinhua carried the company's statement from Bishkek on 5 September. Alongside the 27 tunnels, the Kyrgyz section has 43 bridges, 88 roadbed sections and 20 stations under construction. The line runs more than 500 km from Kashgar in Xinjiang over the Torugart pass to Jalal-Abad and on to Andijan in Uzbekistan; the company is a joint venture of enterprises authorised by the three governments.

The tunnel's maximum cover is 41 metres, and the company reports staged progress on the Naryn No. 1 tunnel, with no length and no date. On the Kyrgyz side of the ledger it counts more than 10 billion som ($114 million) of materials and equipment bought locally, 156 million som of community investment, more than 1,700 machines rented locally and more than 2,000 Kyrgyz employees.
