Armenia’s parties have until Friday to register for the 25 October local elections, the last scheduled vote before the 2027 parliament is chosen

The Central Electoral Commission closed nominations on Monday for the local elections of 25 October and set 25 September as the registration deadline, Armenpress reported. Party lists will be voted in Artashat, Armavir, Gavar, Hrazdan, Goris, Meghri, Ijevan, Dilijan and other towns; Fioletovo and Shamiram vote by majority. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan used the evening’s independence-day address on Republic Square to name “the durability of the state” the country’s principal task and to ask citizens to strengthen it “with education, work and taxes paid”.

The commission counts 17 communities voting by proportional lists; the list Armenpress printed carries 19 names: Artashat, Armavir, Araks, Gavar, Martuni, Vardenis, Hrazdan, Tsaghkadzor, Garni, Artik, Akhuryan, Goris, Meghri, Yeghegnadzor, Vayk, Jermuk, Ijevan, Dilijan and Stepanavan. Which parties and alliances stand where will be known after registration closes on Friday.

They are the last elections on the calendar before the parliamentary vote due in 2027, and one of the towns is where the government’s peace agenda is most concrete: Meghri, on the Iranian border, is the district the Trump route’s 42-kilometre section is to cross.

Pashinyan’s address did not mention the route or the treaty. Its subject was the state: the 35th anniversary “in a peaceful setting”, bought “at the cost of thousands of our brothers and sisters”; the state as “the most important thing we have”; and a bargain he put in one sentence, that a citizen “must love the state as himself” and the state must know the citizen “created it to secure his safety, prosperity, freedom and happiness”. Armenia is developing and has many unsolved problems, he said, and “any solved problem brings new problems”.

The day’s messages to Pashinyan came from Putin, Mishustin, Li Qiang, Tokayev, Bektenov, Rahmon and Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Armenpress listed on Monday afternoon; Marco Rubio addressed the Armenian people. Russian gas deliveries, suspended since 15 September for works, are due to resume on Friday.
