Frank-Walter Steinmeier officially received Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh on Tuesday, the Ulaanbaatar site ikon.mn reported. The declaration “defined the priority directions of cooperation for further widening and strengthening the strategic partnership of the two countries”, in Montsame’s account from the state agency’s Berlin dispatch.
Education comes first in the text. The sides will keep supporting the Mongolian-German Joint University of Minerals and Technology, deepen research cooperation on the basis of initiatives such as the first Mongolian-German Science Day, raise the number of scholarships for Mongolian students and bring German vocational-education practice into a joint programme in Mongolia. In defence, the two armed forces are to strengthen cooperation and hold specialised training in UN peacekeeping and mountain infantry.

Trade and the economy get one priority, renewable energy and a faster green-economy transition. The two sides will recognise each other’s driving licences, study a social-security agreement and open talks on it, and Mongolia will open a consulate general in Frankfurt am Main. A business forum on the same day drew representatives of more than 250 companies, ikon.mn reported, and the exhibition “Genghis Khan and the World of the Mongols” has opened in Berlin, Montsame reported on Wednesday.
Montsame’s report does not print the declaration’s text and names no raw-materials clause: rare earths and critical minerals, the subject of German interest in Mongolia for years, do not appear in it. The French nuclear group Orano reaffirmed its long-term uranium-exploration cooperation during the visit, by a headline on ikon.mn’s front.
