Azerbaijan’s GDP grows 1.5% in nine months as the oil sector shrinks 1.2%

Azerbaijan’s gross domestic product reached 102.0 billion manats in January to September, 1.5 per cent more than a year earlier, the State Statistics Committee reported on Friday, with the oil and gas sector down 1.2 per cent to 30.3 billion and the rest of the economy up 2.6 per cent to 71.7 billion. Budget revenue ran 2.8 per cent above plan.

Horizontal bar chart of Azerbaijan nine-month output: the oil and gas sector at 30.3 billion manats, down 1.2 per cent, and the non-oil economy at 71.7 billion manats, up 2.6 per cent.

The State Statistics Committee’s nine-month estimate puts GDP at 102,048.2 million manats, by APA-Economics, with the oil and gas sector at 30,326.5 million after a fall of 1.2 per cent and the non-oil economy at 71,721.7 million after growth of 2.6 per cent. One manat in three of output still comes from hydrocarbons, and that third is shrinking.

State budget revenue reached 29,312.1 million manats in January to September, 787.7 million or 2.8 per cent above the forecast and 169.7 million or 0.6 per cent above a year earlier, while spending came to 25,348.2 million, 680.0 million or 2.8 per cent more than last year, the treasury’s report says, with more than 984,000 payment orders executed. Revenue exceeded spending by about 3.96 billion manats over the nine months, on a budget whose 2027 draft before the Milli Majlis plans 39.2 billion of revenue, 42.4 billion of spending and a deficit of 3.2 billion. The consolidated budget took in 36,730.8 million and spent 30,089.9 million.

One manat in three of output still comes from hydrocarbons, and that third is shrinking.

External public debt stood at $4,509.5 million on 1 October, 7.8 per cent less than a year earlier, the committee said. Nominal incomes of the population reached 72,711.7 million manats in nine months, 9.6 per cent more than a year earlier, the average monthly wage in January to August came to 1,173 manats, up 7.2 per cent, and consumer prices rose 5.7 per cent in January to September, the same pace as after eight months.

Aliyev gave the CIS council a transit number the same morning: almost 8 million tonnes through Azerbaijan in the first half, 10 per cent more than a year earlier, against a medium-term target of 15 million tonnes in each direction. A non-oil economy growing at 2.6 per cent and a debt shrinking at 7.8 is the balance the committee printed on the day the president counted tonnes.
